DESCRIPTION:  After a year of struggling to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic causing worldwide setbacks in the fulfilment of women’s human rights, with issues like gender equality, the elimination of violence, and women’s empowerment, the UN CSW faces a rising urgency to recover, rebuild, and reimagine a more equal world.  Meet Houry Guedelekian, Chairwoman of the UN CSW,NY who addresses the CSW agenda and the work to be done to achieve progress in gender equality and women’s empowerment while raising their visibility as contributing members of a society. AIWA’s UN representative Tina Glandian, Esq. of Geragos & Geragos, NY. will facilitate the event.

Guest: Houry Geudelekian is the Chair of UN NGO CSW/NY and Convener of Civil Society Advisory Group to Generation Equality Forum. She was the previous Gender Program Coordinator at NGO Committee on the Status of Women, NY and is the UN Coordinator of Unchained At Last, an ECOSOC accredited US based organization that fights to stop early marriage in the US. She recently ended her term as Co-Chair of Working Group on Girls and Co-Chair of NYC4CEDAW. Born in Beirut, Lebanon into an Armenian family, she moved to New York City in the late 70’s with her husband. Her professional expertise is in Project Management, Marketing and Public Relations with a passion for Human Rights. Houry has been involved with many non-profits and academic institutions, chaired major events and fundraised for special events. In her capacity as UN Coordinator for Armenian Relief Society (2011-2016), she served as Executive Committee member of NGO CSW NY for two terms, Co-Chaired NGO CSW Forum Planning Committee. She has also facilitated and partnered with UN Member States, UN Women, UNDP to bring about positive change globally through panel discussions and projects.

Facilitator: Tina Glandian, Esq. joined the AV Preeminent law firm of Geragos & Geragos in 2005.  Among its notable cases, the firm prosecuted a pair of groundbreaking federal class action lawsuits against New York Life and AXA Corporation for insurance policies issued in the early 20th century during the Armenian Genocide, eventually settling these two cases for more than $37.5 million. 

After working in the Los Angeles office for several years, Tina opened the firm's New York City office which she now heads.  Licensed in California, New York, Nevada, and Florida, Tina's multijurisdictional practice spans a wide practice area from civil litigation to high-profile criminal defense.  SuperLawyers has repeatedly named Tina a “Rising Star” and The National Trial Lawyers has named her a “Top 40 Under 40.”  In 2020, the National Academy of Criminal Defense Attorneys honored Tina with the “Top 10 Under 40” award for the state of New York.

Tina is also a licensed real estate broker and the co-owner of a real estate brokerage, G&G Realtors, with partner Mark Geragos.  She is a principal and the head of the Hospitality Division of Geragos Global, a national investor in businesses, real estate, and recreation.
